Course Description
This course is accredited by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Commission. Persons desiring to be certified as local detention officers must successfully complete this course and pass a State administered examination at the end of the course. To be admitted to this course an applicant must meet the qualifications set forth by the North Carolina Sheriff’s Commission found online at https://www.facebook.com/surryblet/.
Program Learning Outcomes
DOCC students will:
- Learn legal aspects of detention laws, rules and regulations.
- Develop stress and suicide prevention techniques.
- Properly apply prisoner restraints.
- Learn subject control techniques.
- Learn civil and Constitutional laws, rules and regulations of conduct.
Employment Opportunities
Completion of these courses and successful completion of the State comprehensive exam will allow a student to be employed in County detention facilities in the State of North Carolina.
Instructional Format
Face-to-face instruction will include lecture, discussion, practical and lab.
