Course Description
This five-month Nurse Aide I Certificate is designed to prepare students with the knowledge required to provide personal care and basic nursing skills for the elderly and other adults. Additional information: https://surry.edu/areas-of-study/workforce-training/allied-health.
This Workforce Certificate is offered to high school students through the Career and College Promise (CCP) program.
Course Learning Outcomes
Nurse Aide I students will:
- Practice supportive functions for nursing staff incorporating personal responsibility and accountability for competence.
- Communicate professionally and effectively with individuals, significant support person(s), and members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team.
- Implement caring interventions appropriate for the Nursing Assistant for individuals in diverse settings.
Employment Opportunities
Upon completion of this course and certification as a Nurse Aide I, students should be able to apply for positions at hospitals, skilled facilities, assisted living facilities, home health agencies, physician practices, hospice, and group homes.
Instructional Format
Offered in a hybrid format, as well as face-to-face traditional courses.
