Course Description
This course will present the Instructor I candidate with the knowledge, skills, and ability to satisfy the requirements of NFPA 1041: Standard for Fire and Emergency Services Instructor Professional Qualifications (2019 edition; Chapter 4).
Program Learning Outcome
Fire / Rescue Instructor students will:
- Learn proper techniques to train adult students in firefighting and rescue techniques.
- Learn to schedule and coordinate classes to meet a department’s training needs.

Fire / Rescue Instructor Certification
- FIP - 3811 Fire/Rescue Instructor I (WTCE)
Prerequisites:
- High School or equivalent required;
- Traffic Incident Management Certification (FIP 7000);
- The NCFRC Certification Board requires that candidates must meet the prerequisite of being certified for three (3) years in either Firefighter, Technical Rescuer, Hazardous Materials Operations, or Fire and Life Safety Educator BEFORE enrolling in Fire Instructor 1.
- FIP - 3812 Fire/Rescue Instructor Level 2 (WTCE)
Prerequisites
- High School or equivalent required;
- Fire / Rescue Instructor 1 Certification.
