Welding Technology


Curriculum Description

The Welding Technology curriculum provides students with a sound understanding of the science, technology, and applications essential for successful employment in the welding and metalworking industry. Course work includes consumable and non-consumable electrode welding and cutting processes. Courses may include math, print reading, metallurgy, welding inspection, and destructive and non-destructive testing providing the student with industry-standard skills developed through classroom training and practical application.

Program Learning Outcomes

Welding Technology students will:

  • Interpret blueprints and weld the part to specification.
  • Demonstrate the ability to select appropriate tools, welding supplies and equipment.
  • Apply safe working practices as defined by OSHA for clothing, eye protection, hand tools, power equipment, ventilation handling, storage and disposal of scrap metal.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of multiple welding techniques, including Oxy-fuel, plasma arc cutting, “stick” arc (SMAW), flux core arc (MIG), and gas tungsten arc (TIG) welding.
  • Produce welds that consistently meet industry and American Welding Society (AWS) standards.

Employment Opportunities

Graduates of the Welding Technology curriculum may be employed as entry-level technicians in welding and metal-working industries. Career opportunities also exist in construction, manufacturing, fabrication, sales, quality control, supervision, and welding-related self-employment.
