Tobacco-Free School Policy



The College is a tobacco product free campus. The use of tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, blunts, bidis, pipes, chewing tobacco, snus, snuff, and other items containing or reasonably resembling tobacco or tobacco products) is prohibited in any College buildings, facilities, vehicles or property owned, leased or operated by the College including all outside areas (including parking lots and athletic fields). This prohibition also includes any electronic oral device, whether manufactured, distributed, marketed, or sold as an e-cigarette, e-cigar, e-pipe, or any other product name or designation. The sale or free distribution of tobacco products, including merchandise, is also prohibited. 

This Policy applies to all College employees, students, vendors, contractors and visitors to campus. 

Tobacco products may be included in instructional or research activities if the activity is conducted or supervised by the faculty member overseeing the instruction or research and the activity does not include smoking, chewing or otherwise ingesting the tobacco product.

Definitions 

  1. Tobacco Product - cigarettes, cigars, blunts, bidis, pips, chewing tobacco, snus, snuff and other items containing or reasonably resembling tobacco or tobacco products. Tobacco Products also includes e-cigarettes and vapor cigarettes.

  2. Tobacco Use - smoking, chewing, dipping or any other use of tobacco products.

Prohibition

All individuals shall comply with the Policy. Enforcing the Policy is the responsibility of the entire campus community. Failure to adhere to the Policy could result in disciplinary action for students and employees. Visitors, vendors and contractors who violate this Policy could lose their access to campus.

Public Education

The College shall post appropriate signage on the campus educating students, employees and visitors that the College is a tobacco product free campus and use other methods to further inform and educate the public of this prohibition.
