Graduation Requirements

In order to receive a degree, diploma, or certificate from Surry Community College, students must fulfill these requirements:

  1. Complete all course work and credit hours required in the program.
  1. Minimum Grade Requirements:
  • Students graduating from a college transfer program (Associate in Arts, Associate in Science, Associate in Fine Arts, Associate in Arts Teachers Prep, and Associate in Science Teacher Prep) must complete all credit hours with no grade below a “C.”
  • Students graduating from a Health Sciences program (Emergency Medical Sciences Bridge, Nursing, and Physical Therapist Assistant) must complete all credit hours with no grade below a “C.”
  • Students graduating with all other certificates, diplomas, or degrees must complete all credit hours with no grade below a “D.”
  1. Transfer Credit

All transfer credit must be evaluated by the Office of Admissions, Registration, Records, and Testing and placed on an official transcript before it can be counted toward graduation.

  1. Substitutions

All programs must be completed as stated in the catalog unless a substitution has been approved and filed in Student Services. Example: Substitute ENG 112 for ENG 114 in an AAS program. This practice is acceptable, but it must be approved before the student registers for the course. The Course Substitution form is available in myKnightLife under Quick Links > Etrieve Central.

  1. Have a minimum cumulative (all college courses taken) 2.00 Grade Point Average (GPA). Information regarding GPA is located in the Grading Systems Policy.
  2. Complete at least 25 percent of the certificate, diploma, or degree credit hours at Surry Community College. This 25 percent of hours may not be earned by proficiency and must be in the student’s program of study.
  3. Submit a Graduation Application and payment using the Self-Service option in MyKnightLife. This procedure is normally completed at the beginning of the semester in which the student will complete all coursework.
