Course Description
This course is designed to provide instruction to individuals who want to become commissioned as a Notary Public. Topics include legal, ethical and procedural requirements of the Notary Act. Upon completion of this course with a passing exam grade of 80%, a person is eligible to make application with the NC Secretary of State office.
Course Learning Outcomes
Notary Public students will:
- Demonstrate knowledge of the of the Notary Public Act.
- Identify the requirements of a North Carolina Notary Public commission.
- Discuss the legal and ethical principles of a North Carolina Notary Public commission.
- Demonstrate proficiency of the NC Notary Public Examination.
Instructional Format
Face-to-face & online class meetings to include lecture, demonstrations, and practical applications.
Course Requirements
- Be at least 18 years of age or legally emancipated.
- Reside or have a regular place of work or business in North Carolina.
- Reside legally in the United States.
- Speak, read, and write the English language.
- Possess a high school diploma or equivalent.
- Pass the course of instruction (Licensed members of the North Carolina State bar can apply for their notary commission without taking the course)
- Purchase and keep as a reference the most recent manual approved by the Secretary that describes the duties and authority of notaries public.

Cost may not include associated textbook or supplies.
Virginia residents pay the same tuition as in-state students.
