Curriculum Description
The EMS, AAS program is designed to provide an opportunity for paramedics currently credentialed by North Carolina Office of EMS or National Registry to earn an associates degree online. The Associates degree is being strongly suggested by the Office of Emergency Medical Services and expected to become the entry level for paramedics in the near future.
Admission requirements to the Emergency Medical Science, A.A.S.
- Meet SCC General Admissions Requirements
- Students applying to the EMS AAS Bridge program must be credentialed as a Paramedic by NC or National Registry.
- Hold Basic Life Support (BLS), Advanced Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Life Support (PALS) certification.
Students with current and unencumbered Paramedic credentials on the North Carolina or National Registry will be awarded credit for the courses listed in the table below (45 credit hours). Credit will be listed as “TR” with credit hours awarded. No quality points are awarded and the grade is not counted in the grade point average.
Students must complete at least 25% of the EMS program at Surry Community College. No more than 7 curriculum credit hours (SHC) can be transferred into SCC with this program.
Individuals who successfully complete EMS 110 are eligible to take the North Carolina EMT credentialing exam.
